The Kinematic M&S Systems Engineer functions as the threat targeteer and from the adversary’s perspective assigns a missile from that country’s Order of Battle against specific targets, and then functions as the threat weaponeer, assigning a specific warhead to each missile used in the attack to achieve the scenario’s training or engineering objective.
Responsibilities:
System Engineer responsible for the generation of kinematic output data of simulated missile trajectories for the Missile Defense Agencys (MDAs) Threat Modeling Center (TMC)
Review customer scenario requests and identify potential issues before production begins
- Generate high-resolution kinematic trajectories using the Threat Modeling & Simulation Suite (TMSS)
- Processes results in an end-to-end threat attack laydown file that is modeled by the TMC, providing the kinematic output data of simulated missile trajectories. This is provided to U.S. missile defense activities and select foreign countries for use in their simulations to analyze missile defense system performance and effectiveness.
- Troubleshoot modeling products, trajectory outputs, and supporting data sets
- Review final deliverables to verify customer objectives are met and specifications are accurately represented
- Partner closely with Systems Engineering and Software Development teams to support and improve internally developed tools
- Support delivery of Integrated Threat Products for MDA and other DoD customers
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Active Secret Clearance required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM-related field
- 2+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree (Or 0+ years with a Master’s degree)
- Knowledge of missiles and six degrees of freedom (6 DoF) trajectory representation
- Familiarity with missile defense system components and their interoperability
- Understanding of Linux and Windows based platforms with their associated software
- Ability to work independently and in groups and must be a self-starter
- Excellent time management, schedule estimation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibilty preferred
- Knowledge of missile targeting and allocation and "Red Force" laydowns
- Experience with infrared and radar cross section (RCS) signatures
- Experience in systems engineering and/or software development and testing, especially with Agile methodology
- Quality control experience with a strong background in test and troubleshooting
- Experience working within the Missile Defense Agency, especially related to Ground Test exercises/events
- Ability to lead projects and delegate technical tasks
The Threat Modeling Center is responsible for the development and delivery of high-fidelity threat modeling products in support of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and MDA’s Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). TMC is responsible for the development of models and simulations (M&S) used to stimulate element models of MDA’s BMDS, including kinematic missile modeling, IR signature modeling, data production/analysis activities, and maintenance/sustainment activities for the entire TMC software baseline. TMC is a cornerstone element to the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC), as part of the MDA Engineering Directorate (DE) Task Order.
