Combat Systems SPY Technician - R0158641
Job Description:

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Combat Systems SPY Technician to join our team in Rota, Spain, supporting the Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC). This role offers a unique opportunity to directly support the readiness of forward-deployed U.S. Navy forces by maintaining and restoring critical radar and combat systems. As part of a mission-focused team operating in a dynamic, high-tempo environment, you will play a key role in ensuring advanced AEGIS weapon system capabilities remain fully operational. This is your chance to contribute to something bigger—supporting global maritime security and the warfighter at the point of need.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve casualties involving AN/SPY-1 radar and associated combat systems

  • Perform on-site (OS) and distant support (DS) for U.S. Navy ships and shore-based OCONUS activities

  • Conduct maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of radar systems, including Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) and auxiliary equipment

  • Execute advanced fault isolation within radar subsystems, including Signal Processor (SIGPRO) components

  • Analyze radar performance and provide recommendations on clutter mitigation and environmental impacts

  • Support System/Equipment Assessments (e.g., TSRA, INSURV, ICMP, BMDRAs, Combat Systems Assessments)

  • Assist with logistics support, including validation of Allowance Parts Lists (APLs) and identification of required components

  • Provide on-the-job training (OJT) and technical guidance to ship’s force personnel

  • Document findings using Navy systems (e.g., MFOM/NMD, FTS) and prepare formal reports/debriefs in accordance with JFMM standards

  • Recommend updates to technical documentation, including Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs), manuals, and procedures

  • Support Engineering Technical Branch (ETB) efforts, including system analysis and corrective action development

  • Travel as required to support forward-deployed naval forces

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of journeyman-level experience within the last five (5) years in radar/combat systems

  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of U.S. Navy radar systems, including BMD-related equipment

  • Strong knowledge of electromagnetic energy, radar theory, quantum theory, and electronic phasing as applied to AN/SPY-1 systems

  • Ability to understand and apply mono-pulse radar principles, including interpretation of sum and delta signals for fault isolation

  • Experience troubleshooting radar signal processing (SIGPRO) components

  • Ability to work independently without supervision in a journeyman-level capacity

  • Familiarity with Navy maintenance and tracking systems such as MFOM/NMD and FTS

  • Ability to interpret and apply technical manuals, drawings, and engineering documentation

  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including OCONUS and shipboard environments

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance

  • Strong communication skills, including experience preparing technical reports and briefs

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience supporting AEGIS Weapon Systems, particularly AN/SPY-1 (all baselines)

  • Experience with Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) systems and configurations

  • Background supporting DDG-51, CG-47, or similar AEGIS platforms

  • Experience participating in TSRA, INSURV, BMDRAs, or Combat Systems Assessments

  • Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items and Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) processes

  • Prior experience providing Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) or working at a Regional Maintenance Center (RMC)

  • Experience developing or improving technical documentation and training materials

  • Active or recently held security clearance

  • Experience working in a forward-deployed or OCONUS operational environment, supporting naval forces in high-tempo, mission-critical settings
